This year, I am so excited to tell you about some wonderful independent yarn dyers and spinners! It’s no secret I love yarn and if you’re here it’s likely you do too. I’ve been so lucky to be apart of an amazing group of fiber artist and thought I’d start a monthly post to tell you about some of them.
Our featured Indie dyer of January is the awesome Yarn Geek Fibers out of Keokuk, IA. Sarah Hollandsworth is the “Head Yarn Geek” and enjoys helping others to learn new things. She loves the dyeing process and the sometimes unpredictable results. When people buy from her, she tries to encourage them to ask questions so she can help them get the best results for their projects.
Now through the end of the month (Jan. 2017) you can use the code GeeksandSquids to get 10% off your purchase HERE.
What’s really interesting is most of her yarns are named for women who are in the STEM fields of study. Right now, Sarah’s studio happens to be her own kitchen but she is renovating another room in her house to use in the future. If you happen to drive by you might catch a glimpse of beautiful fibers drying on her front porch. Man, I wish I was her neighbor!
Sarah says, “I hope that people will look at my work and be inspired to learn more.” She has written a few patterns although she wouldn’t consider herself a designer. Sarah also makes stitch markers out of vintage radio parts which were inspired by her father who was a HAM radio operator. How cool!
Sarah has been so kind to offer a month long coupon code for KT and the Squid readers! Now through the end of the month (Jan. 2017) you can use the code GeeksandSquids to get 10% off your purchase HERE. She has also offered to giveaway a skein of yarn which I will post on Monday (So keep an eye out!).
Thanks so much Sarah for being our first featured indie dyer! Be sure to stop by her sites and say “Hi” for me!
