Burnside Cardigan: Pattern Release | KT and the Squid

Introducing the Burnside Cardigan. I designed this cardigan because my son wanted something made in green. He didn’t care what it was as long as it was green.

The Burnside Cardigan is stitched from the top down and all the trim is added last with no seaming. You can add buttons, a zipper or both like I did. I really like the look of the buttons but I wanted the front of the sweater to stay closed. If you are going to add just buttons I suggest using at least 6 (I only have 5) to keep it closed better.

The pattern is written for children sizes 2 (4, 6, 8, 10) and you’ll need about 340 (440, 550, 640, 760) yards of worsted weight yarn. For the sample I used Lion Brand Heartland in Kings Canyon which you can purchase HERE. You will also need 5-7 1.25″ toggle buttons (or 1″ round buttons) and/or a zipper longer than the sweater front (tutorial how to sew it on available HERE).

  1. I think an adult size version would be awesome…maybe plus size to……. 🙂

  2. Fantastic! Thank you!

  3. This is one darn cute sweater. He looks so proud of it (and his Mama). This will be one of those sweaters that will pass along in the CAL circles – I can see.

    1. Thanks Sara 🙂
